US Navy says Iran seized, later let go of American sea drone

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The U.S. Navy’s Mideast-based fifth Fleet says Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard seized and later let go of a U.S. sea drone within the Persian Gulf.

Cmdr. Timothy Hawkins, a fifth Fleet spokesman, mentioned Tuesday the incident noticed a Revolutionary Guard ship attempt to seize a Saildrone Explorer.

Hawkins mentioned the Guard vessel was towing the drone behind it as a U.S. Navy ship and helicopter approached it.

Hawkins advised The Related Press the Navy referred to as repeatedly to the Iranians, who in the end let the drone go.

Iran didn’t instantly acknowledge the incident. Nevertheless, it comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Iran over Tehran’s tattered nuclear take care of world powers.
